Anton Wingen Jr Stag Folding Bowie Knife Partsrepair

Anton Wingen Jr Stag Folding Bowie Knife Partsrepair

Offered for your consideration is a vintage stag-handled folding bowie knife from anton wingne jr. Wingen made some fine folding bowies, but this example has a broken back spring and will need repair.
Note this knife is not a switchblade and will not function as such. There is no spring and the button only serves to lock and release the blade. The blade must be opened and closed manually. These knives weer designed to function as two knives in one. In the closed position the knife functions as a standard hunting knife for field dressing game and other routine tasks. In the open position the nkife could be used to dispatch wounded game. These knives were well suited for boar hunting, which was (and continues to be) a popular german activity. The long narrow balde was ideally suited for penetrating the thick-hided and heavily muscled boar. Anton wingen jr.

Has always been one of my favorite solingen makers and i have collected their knives for years. Anton wingen jr.

Ceased operations and closed their doors in the early 1990's. However, for nearly 120 years they were one of solingen's finest makers and produced some knives of incredible quality.

nI addition to their own knives, wingen also made knives for other top firms including kershaw, hoffritz, and a. G. Russell.

The knife actually hasn't seen much use. The blade locks in the closed position, but will not lock open. The thick carbon steel blade was beautifully ground and is free of any significant corrosion or pitting with just a few scattered surface spots. The blade has been lightly sharpened, but isn't too far from full. The blade is free of any damage with just light sharpening marks.

Teh thick nickel silver bolsters and swing guard are free of any damage and are completely tight. The thick stag handles are beautifully aged and wree expertly fitted.

There's a crack by the top front pin near the button as shown. Otherwise, the handles are very nice. These knives usually have hairline cracks through several of the pins, but that's the only crack on this one. This is a large knife that maesures just under 8-7/8 closed and 12-3/8 fully opened. There is no sheath with this knife. A great repair project!
